This Little Light of Mine - September Newsletter

Monday at 5:00 pm it occurred to me that my monthly newsletter was suppose to go out at 8:00 a.m., that is not exactly perfect timing. However, at 5:15 I went to Mass and in God's perfect timing the reading was Luke 8:16-18 "No one who lights a lamp conceals it with a vessel or sets it under a bed; rather, he places it on a lampstand so that those who enter may see the light."
Is it too cheesy to say, when I heard that passage a light bulb went off? Well it did!
Every day Catholic Charities counts on numerous donors, supporters and volunteers to let their light shine. Sometimes we may be inclined to think, what does my little light do. I want to share a story about how lives were brightened because of one person's little light.
A couple weeks ago a woman, who I will refer to as Sally, emailed Catholic Charities asking if we had any beds. Her son was 7 years old and getting bigger and it was becoming increasingly difficult for their family of 3 to share one bed. Sally did not live in a city where Catholic Charities has a resale store, so I had to respond that we did not have a bed and due to our limited space we do not store donations of furniture. Not exactly the news you want to share with someone who needs help.
About a week later we got another email from a woman who I will refer to as Patti, and I bet you can guess where this is going. Patti had a bed and wanted to know if we knew someone who could use it. After a little coordinating, Sally was able to get Patti's bed for her son. Patti didn't stop there, she also had a bike she wanted Sally's son to have. This is what Sally wrote to me in response "Thanks again and bless you. This means the world to me."
Thanks to Patti shining her little light, Sally and her family have a brighter life.
The end of the Luke's passage says, "to anyone who has, more will be given...", so go let your light shine!
