Effingham CC holds 16th annual Austin Luckett Golf Tournament
Posted on June 10, 2015

Catholic Charities’ Advisory Board provided 84 players with a fun filled day at the 16th Annual Austin Luckett Golf Outing held May 8 at Cardinal Golf Course.
Because the tournament was cut short due to thunderstorms, every participating team and player had an equal chance of taking the top prizes. The First place team, Cardinal Golf Course player, Rick Stodden is featured in above photo with Sr. Carol Beckermann, Catholic Charities Area Director. Team members Joel Holmes, ...Ken Bludworth and Jim Tull were not available for the photo. Second Place Team was the St. Anthony Church. The team members were Fr. Chris Brey, Greg Fearday, Rob Johnson and Fr. John Eaton. Prizes for the Longest Putt went to Brenda Bochler and Mike Defend. Sr. Sandra Sudkamp and A. J. Luckett were the winners of prizes awarded for Closest to the Pin. The Longest Drive prizes went to Candy Daume and Jim Verdeyen. Brandon Wright was the winner of the $500 Raffle Grand Prize which was donated by Kent Schmidt/Smith Moore, Inc.
The golf outing is a fundraiser named in honor of Austin Luckett who passed away in July of 1999. He served as member of Effingham Catholic Charities Advisory Board and was an avid golfer. The first annual golf outing in Mr. Luckett’s memory was the inspiration of Carl Koerner who wanted to honor Austin’s memory and his commitment to the work of Catholic Charities.
Over the 16 years we have raised approximately $180,000. The money from this outing helps provide food to those who are hungry, gives school supplies to children who have need of the basic supplies, helps provide medicine to those who cannot otherwise pay for their medications, and provides rent and utility assistance so that people can remain in their homes.
