Strong for Life
Strong for Life is a strengthening exercise program designed by physical therapists for home use by older adults (60 and over) to improve strength, balance, and overall health. This program targets specific muscles that are important in every day movements, such as getting out of a chair and walking. The Strong for Life program uses a 35 minutes videotape consisting of warmup, 11 strengthening exercises using Thera-bands (color-coded elastic resistive bands that provide positive and negative force on the muscles from light to heavy resistance), and a cool down.
Each participant’s goal is to exercise at least 3 times a week at the resistance level specified by the trainer. This program benefits the individual by increasing endurance, building strength, improving balance and increasing flexibility.
This program is an evidenced based program from Boston University and the exercises can be done from a standing or seated position.
