The Elizabeth Kuhlman Giving Society is a select group of donors supporting the Catholic Charities Crisis Assistance program. Your monthly recurring gift will ensure that families in desperate situations will receive the transforming help they need.
On March 1, 1925, Miss Elizabeth Kuhlman was hired by Bishop James A. Griffin as the first employee of Catholic Charities. It was Bishop Griffin’s desire to establish Catholic Charities in the city of Springfield and gradually expand it across the 28-county diocese. Elizabeth was a social worker and also the President of another organization, the Ladies of Charity. These dedicated women were the first Catholic Charities donors! They made monthly, recurring
gifts of 10 cents to fund the Catholic Charities operating budget.
To honor Miss Elizabeth Kuhlman and the Ladies of Charity, we are establishing the Elizabeth Kuhlman Giving Society and asking you to consider becoming a sustaining monthly donor, just like the Ladies of Charity over a century ago. Recurring contributions, no matter the amount, ensure we can plan effectively and respond promptly to the ever-changing needs of our communities. They provide a stable foundation for programs that feed the hungry, keep families together, and uplift those facing hardship. Your recurring gift not only strengthens Catholic Charities but also deepens your personal legacy of giving and love. Catholic Charities could not have delivered a century of love, mercy and compassion without the kindness of our incredible donors.
